The hamlet of Ellera, located on the foothills of Albisola, still retains its traits of ancient countryside Ligurian village and boasts a charming historic center with pictoresque alleys, caruggi and small squares, embellished by an important series of artistic ceramic panels creating a bona fide open-air gallery of ceramic art.
The village was formed around the 10th century, along the slopes of a hill guarding the bridge that goes over the Sansobbia stream, alongside an ancient valley-floor route that led from the coast to Montenotte and Stella. For more than a hundred years, from 1803, Ellera was an autonomous municipality, until a royal decree in February 1929, sanctioned its suppression and its inclusion in the Albisola Superiore municipality as a hamlet.
Just a few kilometers away from Albisola’s center, Ellera is still to this day a lively and welcoming village, rich in history, art and testimony to be discovered and experienced.
